{"id":3575,"date":"2018-05-25T15:30:08","date_gmt":"2018-05-25T10:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/blog\/electrical-engineering-analytics-bharath-bethapudi\/"},"modified":"2025-01-20T20:03:27","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T14:33:27","slug":"electrical-engineering-analytics-bharath-bethapudi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/blog\/electrical-engineering-analytics-bharath-bethapudi\/","title":{"rendered":"Electrical Engineering to Analytics: Bharath Bethapudi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">I\u2019m an electrical engineering graduate who worked in the <\/span>core<span style=\"color: #000000\"> sector for over 5 years before realizing that if I wanted to stay relevant and evolve, I needed to upskill. <span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>Choosing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/pg-program-data-science-and-business-analytics-course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Analytics<\/a> was a no-brainer considering that the domain is growing like a weed and is a growth-churning machine for professionals.<\/strong><\/span> But it required some serious effort and perseverance to make a transition. I moved to E&amp;Y after a series of interviews and starting working on analytical projects.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>Soon after joining E&amp;Y, I realized that this wasn\u2019t going to be a walk in the park. <\/strong><\/span>I had no prior experience in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/pg-program-data-science-and-business-analytics-course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Analytics<\/a> and hence my initial days were a bit of a struggle. <span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>My role required me to work on tax prediction for telecom clients, statistical modeling, and making dashboards.<\/strong><\/span> Thankfully, E&amp;Y had a 3-month long training program that helped me understand the basics and get started on my projects.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">But, my knowledge was still very limited. I wanted to grow faster and perform better in my role. <span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>Lack of formal training would hold me back every now and then from excelling in my role. <\/strong><\/span>That\u2019s when I decided to pursue the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/pg-program-data-science-and-business-analytics-course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>PGP-BABI program.<\/strong><\/a> When I was promoted to the role of an Advanced Analyst, my job became even more challenging. But <span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>the concepts, tools, and techniques taught during the program boosted my confidence and helped me immensely at work.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">My work now employs R, Tableau, and Spotfire extensively. Thankfully, <strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d9jmtjs5r4cgq.cloudfront.net\/resources\/reports\/babi-detailed-curriculum.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">R and Tableau<\/a> are covered comprehensively in the program which helped me get a better grip on my work assignments.<\/span> <\/strong>I could easily apply my learnings to work and approach problems with complete confidence, in contrast to the uncertainty that would loom over me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>I liked the blended nature of the program<\/strong>.<\/span> One weekend a month gave me the comfort of a full-time program while the online modules provided me the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/blog\/great-lakes-pgp-babi-provides-the-ultimate-flexibility-to-pursue-business-analytics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flexibility to learn<\/a><\/strong> along with my job<strong>.<span style=\"color: #99cc00\"> This industry-relevant program is very well structured. The faculty and industry guests are seasoned and well-informed, and the concepts taught are explained using data and case studies.<\/span><\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygreatlearning.com\/pg-program-data-science-and-business-analytics-course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Capstone project<\/strong><\/a> also helped a lot as it taught me how to design the framework for a project<strong>.<span style=\"color: #99cc00\"> It streamlined my problem-solving skills and provided me the opportunity to do a project start-to-finish.<\/span><\/strong> One of my peers in the program had advanced analytics experience and as a result, I got to learn a lot from him as well.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">If you wish to pursue analytics as a career option, there are a couple of important things to remember: <span style=\"color: #99cc00\"><strong>First is something that our parents told us <em>ad nauseam,<\/em> that there is no substitute for hard work.<\/strong> <\/span>It has never held more meaning for me as it did during my transition to analytics. And <\/span><strong>secondly, this is a field that required continuous learning.
