I\u2019m Gowtham from Theni, Tamilnadu. I\u2019m a B-tech Mechanical engineer from VIT University, Vellore. Before joining PGP-DSBA, I worked as a Machine Design Engineer in the research and development in a machine tool manufacturing industry (Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chose Data science over my previous job because I saw a huge potential for Data science in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I decided to change my career in data science, I first planned to do an MS abroad. While researching for the Data science programs in many universities I happened to look at Great Learning\u2019s PG program. I chose GL after reading the testimonials of many alumini\u2019s and contacted many of them over Linkedin to get a better idea about the program. Also the other reason is extensive placement opportunities GL offered. At first I did have some apprehension about learning in an online medium mainly about whether my voice of doubts and concerns reach faculties but the weekly mentor connection eased my worries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Mechanical Engineer, I initially had many doubts about learning Python and coding but the mentored learning sessions helped me get the grasp of data science and also eased my apprehensions about coding. Quality of the sessions was top notch. As the Guru is assigned to a small group of students, it really helped in the learning as well as in interaction. They played a vital role in my success in completing the program.

In the online sessions, not only the syllabus of the program is discussed but also many industrial examples were shared. The experience of the mentor helped me gauge my skills and contributed to understanding the current situation of the industry that I\u2019m going to enter. I had a career transition from Mechanical engineer to Data Analyst. The skills that I acquired from this program such as Python, SQL and Tableau helped me with my job. Data processing helped me in gaining a different approach in problem solving .<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practice more problems and concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participate in Hackathons to learn about real world applications. <\/em><\/strong>My resume was rejected by more than 30 companies and I got my break on the 31st<\/sup>. So never lose hope, be patient.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
