Design Thinking is a process and an ideology that aims to solve complex problems keeping the user at the heart of the problem.

Design Thinking promotes creativity and innovation. When it comes to problem- solving, we trust our knowledge and experience to form patterns and make decisions. While useful in certain situations, can limit our view of things. Rather than repeating the same tried-and-tested methods, Design Thinking encourages us to remove our blinders and consider alternative solutions. The entire process contributes itself to challenging assumptions and discovering new pathways and ideas. Design Thinking is a middle path of problem-solving. It is not completely ingrained in emotion and intuition, nor does it rdepend solely on analytics, science and rationale; it uses a mixture of both.

Prof Stefanos Zenios is the director, architect and faculty of the course. You will have access to learning videos recorded that will be released week on week as well as a live interactive session with Prof Stefanos.

Participants will be awarded with a 'Certificate of Completion' from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

The program is covered using live faculty interaction and recorded learning content created by distinguished tenured faculty from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Participants will also receive weekly feedback from a Course Facilitator on their assignments and progress in the course. After countless discrepancies, a design consultancy was hired to improve the tax form and gain a deeper understanding of the stakeholders’ needs. After a lot of research, they recommended the creation of a medium-size tax form to make it simpler for taxpayers. 

 

Not only this. From housing corporations to hotels and government agencies, Design Thinking is reshaping every sector in Singapore as it saves lives, cuts costs, and boosts social welfare. How? Recently, Family Justice Courts in Singapore used Design Thinking to reduce disputes and anxiety during the lawsuits. They understood the needs of their citizens and re-built the entire layout of their courts, which makes it a less hassling experience for children. The court decided to solve emotional disputes outside formal hearings, wherever possible. Considering how anxious this experience can be, they made counseling and mediation rooms. The court even made a play corner for children too because they’re not allowed to be in the room where the hearing takes place. 

 

With these campaigns, it is quite understandable that one needs to design thinking for innovation. 5 Stages in the Design Thinking Process

3. Ideate

4. Prototype

Initially, the prototypes may be shared or tested within the team or in other departments. This is just an experimental stage and aims to identify the best possible solution. All these solutions are accepted, improved, and implemented based on the users’ experiences. At the end of this stage, you will have a better idea of constraints inherent and have a clear view of how real users would behave, think, and feel when interacting with the end product. Employ logical thinking and choose the best idea that has minimal limitations. This phase helps you to detect the hidden issues and regulate efficient outputs.

 

5. Test

Try to think of this last stage as the extension of your empathy process. By testing, organizations want to learn if any impact has been made to solve the problem statement. Have we improved upon what already exists? Is our solution compelling enough to change someone’s behaviors ?

Test your prototype with the actual users and get feedback to know how it works. Repeat the process with the chosen prototypes and select the best that fits your needs. This phase helps to discover new solutions to the detected problems.
