Great learning has been successfully transforming the lives of young professionals. One such individual is Vikas. Here is how Great Learning guided him to transform his career as a data analyst.
What is your professional background?
I completed my engineering in Electronics and Communications in 2008 followed by an executive management program from IIT Bombay by 2009. I started working as a Senior Engineer at Alcatel Lucent (now Nokia) and after 4 years switched to Redknee Inc as a solution delivery specialist where I worked on CRM product and Data migration project. I worked for Cerillion Technologies as an Implementation Analyst in 2016 when I decided to join Great Learning. At present, I am working as a Lead Data Scientist in Tech Mahindra.
When did you decide to upskill and how did you zero in at Great Learning?
In 2015, I was working onsite with the client which gave me exposure to all the new innovative technologies arriving in the market and the discussions on innovation relating to Cloud, etc. This talk of the town caught my attention and I realised I should research more about it. I also researched on institutes that provide classroom training in BABI. After checking the curriculum I joined the course.
How was your overall experience at Great Learning?
The overall experience was good and enriching. Insights gained from the Capstone project makes me want to have more such projects in the curriculum. The faculties were exceptional and I appreciate that Great Learning updates its curriculum regularly and has brought in more tools and techniques now after I have finished the program.
Have you started using the tools at your current job role at Tech Mahindra?
Yes, currently Our team is working on a new project that has come in from an Australian Telecom operator Company. We are asked to predict in advance what sort of service faults the company encounters ( minor, major or critical). We are at an initial stage, gathering the requirements and churning the data and for which I am using the tools I learned at Great learning.
What would be your advice to future aspirants?
I suggest aspirants to take part in at least 6 competitions during the span of their entire course of BABI. This would help them to have a better understanding of tools and concepts and in return will boost their confidence. It will also help them to solve data sets given during the time of an interview with a company. I also advise them to do 3 more projects apart from capstone in order to have better insights into the domain.
