Post Graduation

Post Graduation is the program that is undertaken after graduation. In this program, we learn about the subjects in more detail. A postgraduate course can be 1-2 years long. The course is designed in such a way that it gives more detailed knowledge on the subjects which were in the undergraduate program. Many courses are studied under post-graduation in universities. There are four main types of postgraduate degrees: taught courses, research degrees, conversion courses, and professional qualifications.

1.Taught courses: Master’s courses like MTech, MBA, MA, M.Sc., etc., and postgraduate diploma(certificates) come under taught courses. These courses are for 1-2 years. In these courses, many projects, practicals, and seminars are completed by students, which helps in increasing their knowledge. You will also get many opportunities to give presentations in the seminar, doing research work, and participate in the research work. These activities help in personality development.

A postgraduate diploma is a shorter qualification than a master’s degree, and a postgraduate certificate is shorter than a postgraduate diploma. A postgraduate diploma or certificate is an academic or vocational qualification. A postgraduate certificate normally takes around four months, whereas a diploma takes around nine months.

2. Research degree: PhD, D.Phils., integrated PhD, research-based master’s programs come under research degree. A research degree is also called a doctorate. These courses are for 3-4 years. Independent research is the main component of such courses. A doctorate can be taken after a master’s degree or after a bachelor’s degree. The core of a research degree is the successful completion of a research project that makes an original contribution in a particular area of study.

3. Other courses: After graduation, many courses are done by students. These courses are not for a degree, only for increasing the career opportunity and skills for getting career growth.

Conversion courses

Conversion courses are intensive postgraduate programs that prepare you for a career when undergraduate programs have not been prepared for. Graduate Diploma in Law (GDLs), Graduate Diploma in Psychology (GDPs), Postgraduate Certificates in Education (PGCE) are some conversion courses. These subjects offer different courses in medicine, social work, and others. Their main purpose is to allow gaining additional knowledge and skills that need to redirect you to your new career path.

Professional qualifications

Postgraduate Certificates (PGCerts) or Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) are some courses in the professional qualifications. Professional qualifications are vocational training courses that relate to a specific industry or career path. These courses are shorter than the master’s or Ph.D. and not equivalent to a postgraduate degree. These courses are with the same format and structure as the master’s degree.
