LEARNER PROFILE

A National Security Veteran Who Chose to Evolve

MJ
Mark Jackson II Aerospace and National Security Professional, United States Department of War
For over 20 years I've worked with the United States Department of war in the Aerospace sector. As national security has evolved Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are becoming a more intergrated part of the mission.
THE MOTIVATION

Seeking the Best Knowledge to Stay Ahead

Witnessing AI and data science move from the periphery to the center of national security operations, Mark Jackson II made a deliberate decision. He did not want to simply observe the shift. He wanted to lead within it. That meant finding a program with the academic rigor and practical depth to match his ambitions.

He evaluated his options carefully, looking for instruction that combined theoretical grounding with real-world application. The MIT IDSS AI and Data Science program, delivered in partnership with Great Learning, stood out immediately. Its reputation for quality and its structured approach to professional upskilling aligned precisely with what he was looking for.

I was motivating this trend to seek out the best knowledge and instruction to upskill for the years ahead. I found that in the GL MIT IDSS course.
THE EXPERIENCE

The program challenged Jackson in ways he did not fully anticipate. His existing coding experience was less extensive than the curriculum required, and he recognized quickly that he would need to put in significant extra effort. Rather than pulling back, he leaned in.

I underestimated the amount of coding i already had in my skillset compared to the amount needed for the course.

The program's structure made the difference. Pre-work, course materials, and ample practice opportunities gave him the scaffolding he needed to build his skills consistently over time. He committed to repetition and review, and the results followed.

However the pre work and the courses don't miss a beat. So I had to dedicate time to repetition watching and practicing to be ready for the projects and quizzes early on but the course gives you so much to practice on and prepare that it was a huge help in keeping me ready to tackle the graded portions of the class.

Beyond the coursework itself, the human support network proved equally important. Jackson's dedicated mentor was consistently available, and the live sessions with instructors created space for real dialogue and deep learning.

My mentor was also very helpful in always being there for me. I'd like to also compliment the live sessions, these were excellent and the instructors always provided tone for Q&A during and after the lesson.
THE OUTCOME

Confidence, Capability, and a New Professional Identity

Finishing the program changed more than Jackson's skill set. It changed how he saw himself in his field. He came out of the experience with a clear sense of what was possible and a genuine readiness to act on it.

I'm very excited and confident to transition to utilizing these skills in a meaningful way. The course gave me a very strong sense of what's possible and what I feel is a great finger on the pulse of the world today in DS/ML.

That transition was immediate and tangible. Jackson did not wait to apply what he had learned. He moved directly into a meaningful project at his organization, designing and building the infrastructure that would power future AI-driven work.

With the knowledge I've gained here I've already begun a project at work with the data team to build our data warehouse and create the system that will be trained on that data.
THE RECOMMENDATION

A Five-Star Endorsement From a Seasoned Professional

Jackson's advice to anyone considering the program is direct and unconditional. Having experienced a wide range of online learning environments across his career, he places this program in a category of its own.

Take this program. In my online learning experience this is the most successful based structure I've engaged with. In my opinion this is five stars across the board and I believe like me, you will be able to look at completing this course as a major milestone in your life.
