Balancing Deadlines and Dreams: A Deputy Manager’s Leap Into Generative AI

By Mehak Malik

Seeking growth amidst a hectic schedule

For more than two decades, Vipin Marwaha has built a career marked by resilience and dedication. Currently working as a Manager with Six Sails Technologies, which is based in Faridabad. He heads operations for three media houses, established in the US, Durham & North Carolina. Managing multiple publications comes with relentless deadlines, countless hours of coordination, and an endless demand for fresh content.

Yet, amidst the pressure of running large operations, Vipin felt a strong pull toward something bigger: the emerging field of Generative AI (GenAI). “I have always been passionate about upskilling myself and learning new technologies,” he explains. “The demand for AI talent is rapidly increasing, and I knew this would open new avenues to explore.”

This conviction led him to enroll in the Generative AI for Business with Microsoft Azure OpenAI Program by Great Learning, a decision that would not only sharpen his technical knowledge but also reshape how he approached leadership and content strategy.

Blending human creativity with intelligent tools

The choice to join the program was deeply tied to Vipin’s role in media operations. For someone leading content-driven teams, efficiency and creativity are crucial. He saw GenAI as a way to amplify both.

“In our field, content plays a major role,” he says. “AI can help us generate more content, create images for publications, and enhance productivity. It has the potential to completely change the way we work.”

While some see GenAI as a threat to traditional processes, Vipin viewed it as a valuable partner. His aim was not to replace human effort but to complement it with intelligent tools that save time, reduce bottlenecks, and allow people to focus on higher-value tasks.

Learning that fits into a packed life

Balancing such ambitions with an already demanding job was no small feat. Vipin chose the weekend batches to make sure his work didn’t suffer. “I’m managing three media houses, so we have lots of pressure altogether,” he says. “After wrapping up my office work, I’d put in late nights to brush up on my skills and meet market competition.”

The effort was worth it. He describes the program as thoughtfully structured, starting with foundational concepts like LLMs and Transformers and moving into real-world applications such as text, image, and code generation. Vipin also valued the practical exposure to cutting-edge tools like Azure GPT models, Hugging Face libraries, and Prompt Engineering techniques.

“The study material was perfectly aligned with each topic covered,” he recalls. “It gave me both clarity and confidence. I particularly enjoyed learning about Prompt Engineering through hands-on labs. That was my favorite part of the program.”

Transforming Content Strategy with Generative AI

For Vipin, the program didn’t just build technical knowledge; it influenced how he thought as a leader. He reconnected with his problem-solving instincts and began applying AI-driven approaches to his work in media publishing.

He explains: “Every industry faces challenges, and AI plays an important role in addressing them. It gives you answers quickly and enhances productivity. For us, in content creation and magazine publishing, it has already shown how we can do more in less time.”

But Vipin is also clear-eyed about AI’s limitations. “GenAI is still an emerging technology,” he reflects. “Sometimes, the results can have hallucinations or inaccuracies. That’s why it’s important to double-check and not completely rely on it. Human creativity and judgment remain irreplaceable.”

Takeaways that go beyond the workplace

Beyond productivity gains, the program left Vipin with something deeper, a renewed belief in lifelong learning. “I started my career during a recession in 2008, grabbing the first opportunity that came my way,” he says. “But I’ve always kept learning and growing. That’s what has helped me reach here.”

He is especially grateful for the mentorship he received. “I’m very thankful to my mentor who guided us during the sessions. His detailed explanations and support gave me hands-on confidence,” he shares. To aspiring learners, his message is simple: “If you value structure, mentorship, and a strong support system, I would highly recommend this. The program has an excellent course design and a supportive team behind it. You should definitely join.”
