Agriculture is undoubtedly the backbone of our nation. India, which is the second-largest producer of agricultural products in the world, produces more than 280 million tonnes, contributing to more than 15% of India’s GDP. Hence the agriculture market is highly competitive, so staying ahead of the competition is very important in this domain.

My name is Aniket, and I work as PMO in a Drip Irrigation company, which provides various Drip irrigation products to farmers. To sell Drip Irrigation Products, a company should always look for the right customers at the right time & at the right place. Our business was suffering because we were not able to reach our customers at Right Place due to that our Market Share was getting affected by entries of New players in the Market. We lacked to Target the Potential Areas because there was a lack of analysis in targeting the customers.

I took the lead to identify the Potential areas for Drip irrigation Customers. For that, I took the help of the Farmer subsidy Database of two consecutive years, which has data of around 10 lakh farmers and enrolled for a course in Data Science

Initially, the data was very raw in Nature. Then I performed extensive EDA operations on the data, such as removal of Duplicate Rows, Missing information rows, Unwanted columns, Univariate and Multivariate analysis. Crop wise application to understand the crops having the highest applications from which we got to know which crop to focus upon.

From all the analysis, we have come across the following result:

  1. Identified 100 Potential talukas out of 325 talukas where 50% of the Drip Market was present (Narrowed down the Target Markets)
  2. Identified the Districts where we have Gained the Market Share and took actions like changing the team, Increase the Team size according to the Potential of the District, Appointing New Dealers, Change in marketing Activities according to Dominating Crops of the area.
  3. Analyzed the District wise top 10 Manufactures doing business

Impact Generated:

  1. After taking all the necessary actions, within six months, we were able to gain 4% of the overall Market share with additional revenue of 50 cr.
  2. I got recognition for my work and was later promoted to the Corporate office.
