Applying your learnings to your current job is a great way to advance in your career. Learn more about Ajay Kumar Guntupalli’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in his own words.

I have been working as a Data Visualization expert for the past 6 years. Tableau, Power BI are my primary skills and SQL is my secondary skill. I use the data and transform that into visuals in terms of charts and tables.

I have always been fascinated by the word Analytics. And learned that what I have been doing on the job is just basic analysis. That’s when I started looking for analytics courses in order to meet the management expectations on incorporating analytics into my current work profile.

I initially felt helpless as I didn’t know much about analytics and application of it in real life.

And now, I have been working on an analytics project for the past 2 months.

I am creating an alert system for home insurance that first identifies any high or low home inspections per day and then classifies that unexpected behavior as an error. This reduces the unwanted home inspections for certain quotes thereby reducing cost for the company.

Through this program I increased my understanding of business and also increased my interaction with other data science teams for discussions, eventually leading to more visibility at High Level Management.

My advice is to not wait for the course to complete and look for a job. Rather, find a project (small or big) in your current role and start applying your learnings to it. That is the best way to build your portfolio from the very beginning.
