A great skill set to have in our Arsenal – Varun Agarwal, PGP DSBA

Table of contents

I am a native of Rampur District in Uttar Pradesh. Graduated in Electrical Engineering from NIT Jaipur in 2018, I got campus placement with Johnson Controls. It was my first corporate experience where I initially worked as a Software Engineer and then moved to Data and Analytics domain. After 2.5 months I switched to consulting job with Accenture to build and enrich my analytics experience explore further.

I am currently working as a Software Engineer and Trend Analyst with Johnson Controls. I work on RFM analysis on the customer data given to us to understand the loyalty of customers for a US Fast Food Retail Chain.

I work on performing Market Basket Analysis on the different kinds of product available in our database so as to create association rules which helps us to understand which products should be combined together in a group to sell. This eventually helps in increasing the revenue of the firm.

I work on creating data warehouse tables (Fact and Dimension Tables) for an Onshore Retail Firm whose system was on premise Oracle based. We used extensive SQL queries to lift and shift the whole database to the cloud environment from the on premise environment. I cannot disclose the whole project as it is an asset for the organization.

The business had a lot of products available in hand and the revenue disparity between them was quite striking. The organization wanted to discontinue the product, so with my learning, I, along with my team, devised association rules which helped in achieving the results.

Finally, we created a recommendation engine based on the associated products as well. Data bricks were used for the analysis, Tableau was used for visualizing the results. With the help of data, we can do great wonders for an organization. Finally, in our project, we were able to increase the revenue of the retail chain by 5% in the US stores. It is a great skill set to have in our Arsenal. Understanding the association of products with one another to increase the revenue of the organization. Creating loyalty programs for customers by segmenting the customers in different segments. It increased the revenue of the firm by 5% in the US area alone.

Enriches the data power in our mind and gave us confidence that with correct EDA on Data and good ML techniques, we can create a great insight on data.
