I have had a nonlinear growth path in my 12 year career. After spending 6 years in the corporate field in research and consulting, I spent 3 years in the non profit field and another 3 as a business journalist. I had also taken a couple of years to raise my young family. When attempting to get back to the corporate world, I sought a job in a dynamic organization that would consider my varied experiences as an asset and which I could use in its entirety to the company’s and my mutual advantage. I found the same in my current organization in the role of a Strategy and Implementation consultant, where I’ve now been for almost a year. To equip myself for the same I wanted to upskill in a field that would value-add to my skill set as a problem solving strategy consultant and that is how my journey with Great Learning began.

I was on a career break- raising my daughter and looking to get back to the corporate field.

I had done my Masters in Economics 20 years ago and felt an MBA would add to my skill-set. Then opted against that in favor of the Great Learnings program as felt that understanding the power of data was something that even seasoned MBAs were still trying to grasp, thus decided to leap-frog to attain this skill-set instead.

I found GL DSBA to have one of the most rigorous programs online and their promise of small groups and close mentorship appealed to me as I was in the course for deep learning and not to just earn a superficial certificate. My apprehensions were that there were so many online courses that abound and had heard that many courses touched upon a trend of data science, without deeply imparting any insights. Or else on the other end of the spectrum- if they were genuinely rigorous, I was wary that it may be too technical for someone with my non technical background- coming as I was from an Economics background BA and M.Sc. For me this course has been a lot about #Non-techies can succeed in this field too.

Mentors were great, they not only allowed for understanding course materials thoroughly, it allowed for going above and beyond course material, and the network of peers and colleagues was highly valuable.

They were good. Having a deep professional in the field of data science, actively practicing the applications of data science in real world problems and relating the same to what was being taught to us was very valuable, rather than another academician doing the same.
Deepak kept our interest in the course up and made each session -such that you left it excited and hungry for more and eager to put in the work. He was also very helpful individually in areas that I found challenging. Newly acquired skills have been an eye opener- I am actively looking for opportunities to apply the same at my workplace in projects that are coming my way. And show how the power of data can be used for deep insights. Keep at it, Practice, Put in the work. Once you learn the skill of teasing data to get the most powerful insights, it will not cease to amaze you.
