I am Sankara Narayanan, having 18+ years of experience in the IT industry. I have done my Electronics and Communication Engineering, Masters in Information Technology, and Masters in Business Administration. I work for a Multinational Bank. Learn more about Sankara’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Course in his own words.

I was a Risk & Governance SME. I oversaw different types of Risks like Financial Risk & Operational Risk and overlayed the Governance Framework.

Generally, I used to upskill myself every three years to match industry standards and fulfill the industry requirements. As a part of the financial industry, we play with huge amounts of data, and many times we try to get some business benefit out of this data. At some point in time, I realized that I needed a structured method of analyzing and understanding the data, so I decided to learn the methodologies that would help me to understand the concepts completely.

My capstone project is the prediction of Covid 19. When we brainstormed for the capstone, the first thing that I looked for, the scenario should be current and the data should be fresh, and the solution should provide a mechanism to realize and predict based on the symptoms, geography, and a few other basic details like smoking & drinking habits.

Every time when you start analyzing the data, the first pain point would be the authenticity of the data, and it should not be biased in nature. We struggled a lot to gather the data from the different sources. At the same time, it is a global scenario, so we decided to collect the data from different regions. As I come from the financial domain, understanding the medical terminologies becomes really hard. I had to put in a lot of effort and connect with people to get an understanding.

Of course, mentors play a crucial role in the capstone project. As I mentioned earlier, I come from the financial domain. My mentor really helped me to come out of my comfort zone. She gave me a lot of information related to this concept and helped me in getting some references. Coming to a model selection, we definitely go with the prejudice of using some known models. My mentor helped us in understanding the data and choosing the right model to fit into this project.

I can very much assure you that this capstone project would definitely help in understanding different scenarios and help in predicting the Covid 19 suspects based on a few symptoms. The organizations would largely benefit from these models by understanding the true – false scenarios, and definitely, they can come up with the predictive mechanism to protect the suspects (patients) at the same time, they can grow substantially in terms of business as well.

I look at every data to find some monetary benefits to the organization. I started realizing and understanding the importance of data in terms of the meaningful information that we are extracting from the data, and of course, this data would give a pattern that will really help to grow your business.

Certainly, I would strongly suggest everyone learn the concepts with full understanding. This course is prudently structured in a way to learn many things through the blended model learning. The classroom sessions would help you to network with a different set of audiences, and the learnings from everyone are enormous. You will be exposed to different industries and different scenarios to use the model in an effective manner.
