Simplifying Tax Liability Determination Using Python and Tableau Tools

Table of contents

Hi, I’m Shubham Kava. Currently, I’m working at Raj Professional services. In my current role, I interact with clients to understand how they manage their accounts and I offer them regular feedback on maintaining accounts and working on tax compliance on a timely basis. Working with numerous data of various clients and business verticals helps me to understand their business well. This also helps me to provide further detail to them from their business improvement point of view, for example, working with different clients from the same industry helps me to understand how the industry performs.

Since there is a standard set of rules defined by the income tax department to determine your tax liability. However, this structure is a bit complex as there are multiple rules which might be applicable to certain criteria. I have coded all such rules in python and developed a tool which is like one point solution so that a user inputs a detail and they get to know their tax liability. There is software available to deal with such a problem but they are paid. Since python is an open source and if we can compute such things using python it saves a cost for my organization. Apart from Python, I have explored other tools such as Tableau which not only help to analyse data easily but also, it’s a good way to present to clients as well. The reason to decide on such tools is that they are open source and free further they are more efficient and advanced.

The steps include defining the problem statement, later designing a solution, and implementing it effectively. The challenge faced here was dealing with multiple conditions. The most important insight was saving time and cost for the organization. The solution proposed here to the organization was to store client data and present them in Tableau so that it gives the client greater visibility of their business also tools developed with the help of python will provide them with a good approximation of them their tax liability.

As discussed earlier it is a cost-effective solution and also an efficient way to explain data to clients. I was able to save around INR 1,80,000 for the organization. Personally, it was really helpful as it not help me to learn and implement new things but also it helped me to get insight into looking at data differently.
