Recruiters are now looking to hire individuals with Data Science skills. Upskilling will help you power ahead in your career. Read about Palanivel’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in his own words.

I am from a nuclear family and grew up in a small town near Bangalore. And then moved to Bangalore to pursue my studies and did my Post Graduation in Computer science. I have 8 years of experience in SAP (analytics and ETL) and am currently working as a Senior Consultant in Deloitte Consulting. Before joining, I was working as SAP Business Reporting consultant in HCL Technologies.

“This course will help you with a lot of resources (mentor sessions, exceptional program managers, high quality study material), just make sure you make complete use of these and things will fall in place.”

I was worried about the difficulty level of the program and the fact that it will be very difficult to learn in terms of getting real time exposure. But one thing I can say now is that basic python and some algorithms have really helped me. Now I can write any algorithms to predict my response variable in any given dataset. Actually, I planned this program in the year of 2016 but joined in 2020 and I am glad to have started with a batch that my program manager handled, couldn’t have asked for a better support. Since I have been working as analytics and ETL developer, it was smooth as python and data science algorithms learnt during the DSBA program helped a lot. This was the first offer I tried for and I managed to crack it.

The design of this program, the mentors who have been making sure we understand things and your support have been major factors that have helped me throughout this journey. I remember having a conversation with my program manager asking if I should resign because I am looking for a change. I am glad I followed her advice and waited till I had something better in hand. Also, Python with Machine learning algorithms have played a major role in this transition. It’s been great how things are taught and then their implementation in the business world is explained so we know what we have to do once we are through with a specific module. Our mentor has played a very important role in this. The way he has always gone above and beyond to help us understand the concepts is just extra ordinary. You do not get that kind of support in an online course.
