I am a Civil Engineer from NIT Surat (2004 batch), a post-graduate in construction management from NICMAR, Pune. I have project management experience of more than 15 years in construction industry and have worked on various multi-disciplinary projects like Metal, Power Plant, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and real estate sectors with companies like Essar, Tecnimont & RIB Software’s. I have international exposure(USA, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and India). In addition to various project experiences in project management & project control capacity, for last five years I am helping organizations in the digital transformation journey by implementing 5D BIM integrated solution. Currently, I am working with Bexel India as General Manager -Technical (India/Gulf)  subsidiary of Bexel Consulting, a European Multinational Company which is a pioneer in BIM Management consultancy and Software services.

I was working with RIB Software as project Manager responsible for helping construction companies in their digital transformation journey.

I have been a frequent traveller across India and abroad and meet a lot of people from the construction industry. Most of the companies would like to make use of the data generated on construction sites, however the biggest challenge was there is no standardization in capturing data like what we get from online portals in banking or e-commerce and then how to make sense out of this data. Also taking time out of my busy schedule to pursue further studies was a big task.

When I researched online tediously, I found out that the course structure offered by Great Learning was exhaustive and it covered many case studies and had regular mentored learning sessions. Mentor’s are very important as I still belong to the old school and strongly believe that classrooms cannot be replaced into videos. Interaction with mentors and learning in groups is always advantageous as we definitely understand different perspectives of approaching a solution.

I believe Mentored learning sessions were the best and my mentor Animesh has an excellent way to communicate the complex concept in the most simplistic way. I will say that I would have lost interest and would not be able to excel if there were no mentoring sessions. I see data with different lenses altogether. I am able to brainstorm a few applications of data science in the construction industry and definitely I am able to add new perspectives while helping clients in their digital transformation journey. I participated in a Hackathon held in the UK by Project Data Analytics and was proud to apply my skill sets and won the first Prize.

It’s never too late specially for the experienced individuals, data science applications are numerous and it’s still evolving. Normally we assume that only computer or electronics engineers can take up this course , which I believe if one is from a different background like me Civil Engineer makes it all the more different value proposition and can certainly enhance your career.
