Tell us about your professional background.

I was working at Wipro for 3.5 years in the Telecom domain. Through this job, I learned a lot of new concepts. After this, I took a break from the corporate world and started looking after my family business. In the family business, I was responsible for the management of the business. This is when I decided to upskill and enrolled for the DSBA program at Great Learning.

Why did you choose to upskill at Great Learning?

My previous job was quite monotonous and I was considering making a switch. At the time, there was a lot of buzz around Analytics and Machine Learning. Being interested in Analytics and Mathematics, making a switch to the Analytics domain felt like the right thing to do.

While searching for various Analytics programs, I came across Great Learning. I went through all the offers and spoke to several alumni. They were very helpful and guided me towards making the right decision. Most of the other online programs that I was looking at had no structure. The course at Great Learning followed a plan and the faculty consisted of industry experts. As a student who was new to this field, I wanted someone to guide me. The course is curated in such a manner that I was able to gain maximum benefits in a short period.

How was your experience with PGP- DSBA?

I had a great experience. The professors delivered great classes and prepared modules that were easy to follow, the course structure was great. As I was managing my family business and during the course simultaneously, I was able to implement my learnings in my day-to-day activities. I enjoyed the line of work and took up freelance projects.

Once I was ready to move back into the corporate world, I joined Sunoida Solutions as a Data Scientist. Due to networking with alumni in the course, I was able to create a powerful group of contacts whom I still talk to from time-to-time. After completing the program and joining my current organization, I spoke to the management and got 3 more people hired through the excelerate event. Currently, along with my job, I am also mentoring the students whenever I can spare some time. This is beneficial to me, as well as the participants.

Is PGP DSBA helpful in your current role?

Apart from the course structure, the faculty also suggested numerous excellent books by renowned authors. The course will help you create a strong foundation in Data Science. You can continue to learn and build your career in any domain that you prefer. The course was beneficial to me in my current role.

Advice for future PGP- DSBA aspirants?

All the people who enroll in this program are working professionals, so initially, when they start with the training, they might feel that it’s a bit challenging. But once you get a hang of it, you will feel very comfortable and that’s the mantra that the learners should follow. Being persistent will be very important while going through this training.

Learn the theoretical concepts well. Only after learning the theory well, a person will be able to apply it in real-life problems in the most effective way. I have seen many students who are a bit reluctant to put more focus on the theory, which is a blunder, people get tempted to jump to the application part. This is not a good practice and should be avoided.
