1. The Imitation Game 

Morten Tyldum directed a 2014 historical drama, the imitation game. The movie is based on a biography by Andrew Hodges known as Alan Turing: The Enigma and was written by Graham Moore. The film title is the name suggested by Alan Turing to answer the question “Can machines think?”. The imitation game stars Benedict Cumberbatch who works on decrypting German Intelligence messages during the second world war. Along with his fellow mathematicians, the British mathematician builds a machine to help them crack and decipher the codes.

2. Moneyball

The 2011 film, Moneyball talks about statistics on baseball. Billy Beane, joined by Peter Brand, a Yale graduate, challenges the baseball’s old-school selection process. They work on reinventing their team by using a sabermetric model that has never been used before. Written by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, the movie was nominated for several Academy awards. 

3. Minority Report 

A 2002 movie, the minority report talks about a futuristic technology that would make it possible to catch criminals even before the crime is committed. Accused of one such crime, John Anderton sets out to prove his innocence. The minority report was directed by Steven Spielberg and is set in the year 2054.

4. A Beautiful Mind 

A 2001 American biographical film, a beautiful mind is based on the life of an American mathematician John Nash, an Abel Prize winner and a Nobel Laureate in Economics. Directed by Ron Howard, and written by Akiva Goldsman, the movie talks about how the brilliant but asocial mathematician finds his life becomes worse after he accepts an assignment from William Parcher. It also showcases his achievements despite suffering from mental illnesses.

5. Blade Runner

Blade runner revolves around characters called replicants who are bioengineered. We are in the technological era, and more aspects are being digitised and automated with artificial intelligence. Sci-fi movies such as Blade runner help us understand these technologies’ portrayal in a better way. The LAPD blade runner hunts these republicans, and decisions in the movie are based on emotions and the freedom to live.

6. Space Odyssey

Space Odyssey is another movie based on data science, AI, and advancements in technology. Another great movie, Her, is a science fiction romantic drama that was written, produced and directed by Spike Jonze. The basic plot revolves around Theodore Twombly, who is an introverted writer. He buys an AI system or a virtual assistant that can help him write; however, as the AI advances and builds an ability to learn and adapt, Theodore develops feelings towards the AI system.
