Although we go through several struggles in our journey, we can get back up and fight for a better future. And this is exactly what Megha did. Read further to learn about her journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in her own words.

My life was a monument to achieving expectations: I went to college, got a career, married, bought a house. Divorce shattered all of those expectations and I lost everything I had worked so hard for, before reaching 30. Being on a career break for 9 months I felt I have lost touch with the industry trends and was in constant fear of ending up lacking the required skill set to make a successful return to work. Moreover, women in similar situations as me are interrogated about their career break at job interviews and are questioned on their ability to pick up where they left off. That was the time when I thought about reskilling before attempting to get back to work and thanks to @greatlearning for welcoming me to be a part of their India’s No. 1 Data Science Program in Collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin and Great Lakes Executive Learning.

Many real-world applications are all around us: We come into contact with the power of data science every day as consumers when we go shopping, watch TV, drive our car, or interact with our utility’s provider, however a large share of women do not have a positive perception of the field. The field is instead seen to be theoretical and abstract, focused on manipulating code and data with low impact and, by implication, low purpose. Women or students who share this view of data science – both men and women – are inherently at risk of dropping out of the talent funnel for data science jobs. The program and the faculty at Great Learning have changed my mindset and made me believe that even with a “male-dominated competitive culture”, a female can also have a very real impact in the data science fields.

The institute also seeks diversity and encourages women to make choices in the field of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence which is the next fastest-growing field. Starting and navigating through the data science career can become a daunting challenge at the beginning especially for those who are not from the tech background and do not have any prior experience in a similar field. Proper guidance and a roadmap to become a successful data scientist need to be in place and I am very delighted to say that Great Learning has helped every individual including me, based on the situation and skill level. Managing your work, personal life and the program would not be easy without the support you receive from the Great Learning. The set of skills and abilities you acquire from the program are industry-specific skills. Completing projects is a part of the curriculum and the applications which are used to complete these projects are highly in demand.

Overall, it has helped to shape me into the person I am today — a person I happen to like both on a professional and personal level.
