Data Science and Business Analytics has grown to be a highly popular domain. Recruiters are constantly looking to hire talent in the domain. Read further to learn about Aruna’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in her own words.

I am holding a BTech degree in Computer Science and Technology with a deep interest in Technology and Programming with a total experience of 5 years as of date. I started my career with Wipro and then moved on to Accenture before taking a work sabbatical to move to another country. I have two kids aged 13 and 8 and still learning ways to be a better mom. I am currently employed in Ernst and Young, Chennai as an Associate Consultant after a career break of 10 years.

My work involves managing 100+ engagements, resourcing, revenue and cost analysis, and improving profit margins. The biggest professional challenge for me was the gap in professional years and the need to upskill myself. Ten years is a huge chasm in a software professional’s life. The quality of an engineer is measured by her skill and knowledge of contemporary technology. This challenge has always left me feeling undervalued as per market trends. Through several close friends and colleagues, I came to know of the institute. Great Learning has a sound track record of a strong faculty with a curriculum that churns out experts.

I didn’t have any apprehensions about the online medium. In fact, I was for it and knew it would be top-notch quality considering the Great Learning videos on YouTube.

Mentors are industry experts who help view data from an industry perspective and tune the mind to handle an industry use case. The sessions were relevant to break down any complex concept for easier understanding and introduced us to some important updates in the industry. The quality of all the mentored learning sessions was excellent. My Mentor, Pallav and Animesh, were regularly available to solve doubts and give us ideas to improve our thinking of the use case.

Currently, I have learned to view data for patterns, identify features, build models and provide recommendations to the senior leadership with the understanding of statistics, machine learning, data mining, EDA, and Python.

It is an interesting and ever-evolving field due to developments happening at breakneck speed throughout the world. In today’s world of data, it becomes all the more important to understand, transform and utilize data to one’s advantage.
