Best Free Nursing Courses

These free online nursing courses give you a direct path from foundational patient-care skills to workplace-ready clinical practice. You will learn the nursing process, vital signs measurement, infection control, hand hygiene, and safe medication administration first, then build practical skills in wound care, care planning, and nursing documentation. You will also build supporting skills in human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, CPR and basic life support, and patient communication, so you finish with skills you can apply directly in clinical and caregiving settings.

In these free nursing training courses, you will start with the fundamentals of the nursing process — assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation — along with biomedical waste handling and infection control practices. As you progress, you will work through anatomy and physiology relevant to patient monitoring, CNA-specific skills such as resident rights and activities of daily living (ADLs), and emergency response through CPR and first aid. You will also gain exposure to adjacent clinical roles — medical assistant duties, phlebotomy fundamentals, and psychology and mental health awareness — so you understand how nursing fits within the broader care team. By the end, you will have a strong base for entry-level clinical work, stronger job readiness, and practical skills for real patient-care scenarios instead of theory alone.

Skills You'll Gain in These Free Nursing Courses for Beginners

  • Core Nursing Practice: Patient assessment, vital signs measurement, the nursing process, care planning, and nursing documentation.

  • Patient Safety & Infection Control: Hand hygiene, infection control protocols, biomedical waste handling, and safe medication administration.

  • CNA-Specific Skills: Resident rights, abuse and neglect recognition, body mechanics and transfers, ADLs, dementia and restorative care, and CNA exam preparation.

  • Clinical Foundations: Human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, chart and note interpretation, and clinical documentation.

  • Emergency Response: CPR, choking response, AED operation, and recognition of stroke and cardiac emergencies.

  • Adjacent Care Skills: Medical assistant clinical duties, phlebotomy technique, psychology and mental health awareness, and patient communication.

“Medical Terminology Certification”
Easy to use, a little glitchy with the sound, but you just have to revisit the page a few times, and it will click back on. It needed a little recap section at the end to be able to go over and study. I had to take screenshots. But for a free course that offers an optional certificate to purchase for your records, with 6 attempts to pass the exam, YES, I recommend this as an intro class for someone looking to get a little basics!
