NLP - Information Retrieval

Information retrieval (IR) is the process of organizing, storing, retrieving, and analyzing information from document repositories, particularly textual information. While the system helps users locate the data they need, it does not formally return the answers to the queries. It discloses the existence and whereabouts of any documents that may contain the necessary information. Relevant documents are those that meet the needs of the user. A perfect IR system will only return relevant documents.
An information retrieval model forecasts and explains what a user will discover that is relevant to the given query. A basic definition of the retrieval procedure's aforementioned aspects is provided by the IR model, which consists of the following. −

  • A template for documents.
  • This is a query model.
  • A function for comparing queries to documents.
